The Beauty Of Having That Garden These Days

To really appreciate how lucky we are to have gardens, we need to spend an hour or two in a flat, with no back door leading to space outside.  I used to live in a maisonette which was simply a two storey flat.  It’s really a small house but inside a block of identical units.   We had a small communial garden round the back with a separate area for hanging washing.  This was many years ago and it was not normal for both husband and wife had their own car so the car parking issue wasn’t as challenging as it can be these days.    We were so used to the idea of leaving home in our ’20s and starting off in a flat or apartment, asd then waiting until our ’30s befoe buying the first house with a garden.  Today house builders are making gardens as small as they can – insisting that modern families don’t want them.  Too many other distractions . . .   I think this is disingenuous – all families need tha space to just go out and breathe that wonderfully fresh intoxicating air.
